A Celebration of the Summer Solstice
The Summer Solstice marks the turning point in our yearly cycle—the longest day, the shortest night, and a powerful moment of transition. In cultures across the globe, it’s a time to gather, celebrate the abundance of light, and move joyfully into the warmth of the season ahead. At Ballroom Dance Chicago, we believe dance is the perfect way to honor these seasonal shifts—not just as entertainment, but as a meaningful, shared ritual.
That’s what Sommernachtsball is all about.
This isn’t just a party. It’s a guided experience that fuses ballroom tradition with seasonal celebration, making space for everyone—from seasoned dancers to absolute beginners—to learn, move, and connect in a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere.
A Night of Dancing—And Learning
NOTE: Due to unforeseen scheduling shifts, we’ve abridged the original Sommernachts Ball evening. Join us for a joyful quadrille class and open dancing with Matthew and (some of) the team—and as always, it’s BYOB. We’re looking forward to kicking off the summer with you!
The Summer Solstice marks the longest day of the year—a time when the sun lingers in the sky, and the night stretches its arms out just a little further. Across cultures and centuries, people have celebrated this moment with music, dance, and revelry. As dancers, we know there’s no better way to honor the changing seasons than by moving together, raising a glass, and making the most of the night. So, let’s do just that!
Summer Quadrille Class – A timeless favorite, the quadrille blends joyful precision with community spirit. Our summer variation adds a playful twist to this elegant tradition, guiding dancers through lively formations and ending in a vibrant group performance. Celebrate the season with synchronized steps and shared delight.
Open Dancing - After the Quadrille class, enjoy an open dance floor where we'll play some ballroom favorites.

Dress Code: This will be a casual summer event, but wear anything that makes you feel summery!
