Private wedding lessons take place in both Lakeview and West Loop. But the options don’t end there! Let’s walk through the basics about taking first dance lessons with Ballroom Dance Chicago.

  • More than 12 weeks before your wedding? You can start with a wedding consultation. Consultations are 30 minutes with an emphasis on planning and trying out dances.

  • Less than 12 weeks before your wedding? You should get started with a first lesson right away. Each standard private lesson is 45 minutes one-on-one with an instructor in a shared space. You will have an additional 15 minutes to practice right after your lesson.

  • Learning to dance to a specific song in front of a live audience is a skill that requires time, commitment, and practice. Our data shows that the average couple takes 10-15 lessons. After your first lesson or consultation, your instructor will give you recommendations on how many lessons you might need. Our minimum recommendation is starting with 5 lessons.

  • We offer three types of lessons- Semi-private lessons, private lessons, and master-level private lessons.

  • Lesson rates range from $80 - $235 per lesson depending on the type of number of lessons purchased. If you start with one private lesson, we will prorate that into your package for the best overall rate.

  • Studio members receive discounts on both private and semi-private lessons. If you plan on taking more than 8 private lessons or 3+ months of group classes, this is the best option for you!

First Dance Consultations

Our main objective in the wedding consultation is to get to know you and your goals for your first dance. So for the first half of the lesson we’ll sit and chat. You’ll also have the opportunity to ask us any questions you might have about the process and our studios.

The second half of the lesson is all about dancing. You’ll get a good sense for what it’s like to learn to dance together and we’ll also get a read on your abilities and learning styles.

After the consultation you’ll have a much better idea about who we are and what we can offer you. We’ll also give you a sense of what we require from you throughout the process.
