You Won't Believe this Wedding Planning Task Actually Reduces Stress!
As dance instructors, it goes without saying that dancing brings us joy. We all know that if we’re having a hard day, we can just get up and dance, and even if nothing is resolved, we at least feel better about it! And we have the pleasure of sharing our understanding of the benefits of dance with our many wedding dancers preparing for their first dance! But, do we just enjoy dancing because it’s a lighthearted, fun activity or does dance actually have the power to make us happier, healthier individuals?
How Does the First Dance Learning Process Work?
Everyone can learn to dance for their wedding. That goes without question. We’re all born to move, learn and explore and learning your first dance is just an extension of this natural impulse to move and connect.
Every couple who comes to Ballroom Dance Chicago for first dance lessons has been successful in learning how to dance with each other (of course to varying degrees of success). It doesn’t matter what your goals are or the amount of energy and time you dedicate to learning to dance, you will walk out of the dance studio having a clearer idea of how to move together.
Wedding Dance Lessons - How Many?
When it comes to your first dance, you determine your success by how much you’re willing to commit to the learning process (i.e., number/frequency of lessons, hours of practice, etc). Just like all the other details in your wedding to which you’ve dedicated time and money, you decide how your first dance goes: do the bare minimum or kill it; have a fun, elegant, playful (whatever adjective works for you) first dance or hold each other and sway like you’re at your high school prom. Our job as dance instructors at Ballroom Dance Chicago is to get you looking as good as possible in the amount of time you give us to instruct you.
How to Choose the Right Wedding Dress - First Dance
So you have an idea of the general style of your wedding, but you’re still lost with what dress to choose. These Dos and Don’ts will help you make the best decision about wedding day style.
Since Ballroom Dance Chicago is a wedding/first dance studio, these Dos and Don’ts weigh heavily on your ability to move and be comfortable while also looking your best.
Wild West Weddings - New Wedding Trend
Yes, you read that correctly, but we may not be saying it all that correctly. Really, the theme isn’t “wild west,” rather, weddings are headed, at least in design and style, to the beauty of the west. Think ranches, cowhide, wildflower bouquets, whiskey cocktails, etc.

Our Favorite Places In Chicago
We at Ballroom Dance Chicago are dancers through-and-through, but we’re also people with varying interests and loves and we’d like to share some of those with you. While we usually choose dancing as our primary love, this great city of Chicago, IL, settled in the 1780s and burned down ninety years later only to be rebuild in greater glory, is a quick second. I mean, it’s a city named after a garlic plant (not an onion, like most people think). What’s not to love? Anyway, all jokes aside, Chicago is great for many reasons, but we’d like to share with you our favorite things (food, alcohol and dancing) and our favorite places to enjoy those things in Chicago. Think of this blog post as being a map of Ballroom Dance Chicago’s favorite places in the city.
The Drake Hotel - Chicago, IL - Our Favorite Music/Dance Venue
Ballroom Dance Chicago loves this Chicago landmark and the amazing variety of bands they host on Friday and Saturday nights. Find a table in the expansive Palm Court, grab a cocktail and enjoy the music. Or if you’re a dancer, grab your special someone and hit the dance floor (not too small, like many other venues in Chicago). This is our favorite place to dance in Chicago, mainly because of the old school charm and beauty of Palm Court.
A Great Chicago Music Venue - Old Town
Music is as important to us as movement, because without music we wouldn’t have a dance. Sure, you could wax all philosophical about the broad definitions of “dance,” but I’m talking about natural impulses that lead to moving with a partner. This is what we’re all about at Ballroom Dance Chicago, and we believe that the dance starts with music. You hear a song and it inspires you to “get up offa that thing and dance ‘til you feel better” (to paraphrase Mr. Brown).
